When entering relationships, old pains and insecurities resurface, showing that knowledge hasn't translated into emotional healing. 2. Spiritual Bypassing: Engaging in activities like yoga, meditation, and affirmations, while maintaining a facade of positivity and self-acceptance. However, when triggered by close people, there's a regression to a hurt, child-like state, indicating a lack of true emotional processing and acceptance. 3. Avoiding Painful Feelings: Often unconscious, this involves staying constantly busy or preoccupied as a way to avoid confronting inner feelings. It might appear as productivity, but it's actually a form of self-avoidance. The author emphasizes that true healing and transformation require dropping these protective mechanisms of the ego. This involves facing and connecting with root fears and pains that still exert control, through methods like somatic work, inner child work, and repeatedly doing the opposite of what the ego and fear dictate.
