@poupcards: Replying to @jonathanrobinson0514 9 interesting facts about the history of D9 sweetheart organizations: 1. Sweethearts are women who are unofficially affiliated with a fraternity. 2. They support fraternity members in community service, hosting, fundraising & vocal/moral support. 3. National Panhellenic fraternities also had sweethearts. 4. These orgs gained popularity when fraternities were facing a decline in membership. 5. The NPHC recommended that these auxiliary groups be dissolved. 6. Some continue to thrive such as Kappa Silhouettes, Inc. & Iota Sweethearts, Inc. 7. Pushback around negative narratives led the NPHC to dissolve sweetheart affiliations. 8. Fraternity members and sweetheart veterans identified prospective sweethearts. 9. For some (not all) being a sweetheart enhanced the likelihood of being accepted into a sorority.
