My fiance and I were talking recently about our goals, our future, and what we wanted it to look like in terms of career, life aspirations, things of that nature. Mid way through the conversation I felt myself getting upset and at first couldn’t fully tell why. We ended up sitting on that feeling and talking it through. I realized I was struggling with the concept of imagining a wonderful future for myself or having lofty goals bc I didn’t have any faith in my ability to accomplish those things and I was scared that if I hoped for something big like that again, I would just be let down. And frankly, this is something I’ve struggled with for a minute, the idea that I can’t trust in myself anymore to dream big bc I can’t rely on my body the way I once did. It’s frustrating and it’s an aspect of chronic illness grief that can be so tricky bc there are SOO many times I get my hopes up for things and my hopes get SQUASHED bc my conditions got in the way. And then my brain is like “SEE, I was right!” And I have to work overtime to actively coach myself into being a hopeful person again 😖 The chronic illness grief has been hitting hard lately 🥺 #chronicillness #chronicallyill #chronicillnessawareness #disability #grief
