I used to think it was a curse to feel everything so deeply. A bug crushed on the sidewalk felt like the loss of a mother, An act of kindness felt like the fireworks that exploded on New Year’s Eve, A hint of disappointment felt like the world had crumbled between my fingers, And a glimpse of anger that rested in my mother’s eyes felt like a desolate place inside my mind. But as I have grown older, I have realized that feeling everything is better than feeling nothing at all. We seem to reach for emotions that don’t belong to us and because of that, I envied those who did not cry at the smallest things or those who weren’t angry at the world they lived in. But now I think of it as a gift. Every I love you, Every compliment, Every small moment, Feels like the sun warming my face. Not even that. It feels like the galaxies intertwining whilst lighting the skies with colors that exist only in dreams. And when my emotions take over, I do not resist. Because I am the host of my body and soul and I will not miss the beauty it holds. I think humanity feels deeply in their own ways. It is not fair to question others’ emotions. We all feel so differently and that’s the beauty of life. No one lives the same because we all experience things differently. To me, the world is not the world I live in but the world others do. I study people’s faces when they walk down a street or talk with their friends. And I wonder, what do they feel? What do they see? I used to wish to compare my life with others, To see if my emotions fit in with the rest of the world. But now I am glad we all feel so differently because what a boring world we would live in if we didn’t. So when I look at the trees, I study their scars and watch as small critters nest between their endless branches. When I look at the moon, I realize how endlessly in awe I am of it. When I look at the fields of grass and flowers, I begin to understand how important the smallest specs of life are. There is so much beauty that I hold in my heart. And now that I am not ashamed of how deeply I feel, I’m floating. And how beautiful the view from up here is. To my friends and the boy who made me understand that life is meant to be experienced with everything we have inside of us.
