They denied it, and made me feel stupid at the end for bringing it up: "I'm not surprised you think that." Sometimes, this is what abuse looks like. If it happens once or twice and isn't repeated, I don't think it's abusive. It's disrespectful and hurtful, but not abusive. If it happens repeatedly though, that's when it becomes abusive. How? The combination of denial and ridicule discourages me from speaking up. Why? Well... I don't want to "get it wrong" again. I don't want to be "stupid" again. So I don't say anything when they do something that bothers me, And that conditioning is what makes it abusive. Because their actions have trained me to stop objecting when I’m being mistreated.
