@chickenschmidtfarms: Replying to @Chelsea Aquila If they already have a “home base” established its as easy as opening their door! I’d start with an hour or so in the evening before sundown with you out there with them. It’ll make you feel better to see them instinctively return home! (A few treats in the run as they return works great too!) #backyardchickens #homestead #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #backyardflock #chickenmom #farmfresheggs #LearnOnTikTok #freerange
lol idk but mine always just know where to go when sunsets begins. But with hawks here I stopped free roaming

I have an automatic door. One missed curfew the first night and it never happened again. 😂

Train them! Mine follow me to the pen because I bring treats. This way, if we have to leave I can safely put them in their pen!

What about introducing new chickens to the coop? I leave the door open all day so my bigger hens can come and go as they please to get food and water

I’ve never had to do any of this. My babies just stay in the yard cuz they want to. Maybe I’m just lucky. Like, where else do they need to go?

I couldn’t leave mine in the coop bc of the summer heat. So every single night, there I was putting them all in there by hand 😂 they got the hang of it fast though!

Treat train them so you can recall them when you need them to come back. At dusk they will always return by themselves.

We live in the jungle in Hawaii. We can’t let ours roam free or they will disappear and it will draw in the wild roosters. 🐓
