@dr.nicole.vangroningen: Yeah there were days that I felt like dog meat during residency, but I’d still categorize it as more or less my jam. Also! The arrival fallacy applies to WAY more than just medicine - would love to hear about where others perceice this. #doctorlifestyle🍃🌈☁️ #doctorsoftiktok👩⚕️ #hospitalistlife
This is why I’m not a doctor! I was planning to go to med school but was miserable in premed. I figured if I didn’t like it now why would I like it in 10 years

I honestly like the idea of Med school more than residency. I genuinely see myself enjoying the learning stuff I actually want to learn

1. You don’t know if you’ll enjoy it until you do it. There’s so many aspects that change depending on specialty choice both in med school and residen

DEFINITELY don't do it thinking it'll be Raindance butterflies at the end. do that, and you'll be disillusioned beyond belief when you get there

What’s the opposite of arrival fallacy? The only thing getting me through residency is quitting medicine and doing something non clinical after

I absolutely hated medical school, but enjoyed residency. Not the hours or the pay, but I enjoyed the work and the patients.

I had to “get to law school.” After my 1L year, I was so depressed I took 2 years off and went to therapy. I finished happy bc I loved the process

Same as life in general! Enjoy the journey. Day by day. I had forgotten this and missed so much rushing through.

The opposite of the arrival fallacy is a focus on the intrinsic enjoyment of the work itself

I think from a residency standpoint… enjoying 80 hour work weeks is not realistic

Agree. Had a blast in med school made so many lifelong friends, residency was tough but fun and and life changing in a good way (EM). Very grateful I get to do this my entire life

When I was in Engineering School, there were many MDs in many of my courses. A lot of them didn’t have the grades to move on. I don’t know/understand?

I’m currently on leave from med school after finishing my first year (having a baby). This time has confirmed that I want to be a physician. I’ve felt so lost/understimulated during my time off.
