The runner can’t stop a motion that is already in place. So the second baseman has to move to make her throw. At least that’s what I was taught playing second or as a shortstop

I thought, at least in baseball, that you can't assume the double play. But SB is much quicker & I don't know the history of the retired runner rule!

Bending the rules a bit but it was very heads up by the 2nd baseman to go through the motions of continuing the DP knowing that there was no way that they would have got the runner out at 1st

I think its the right call, especially considering the type of interference doesn't have to be intentional, but the 2nd basemen needed to account for her side arm. not everyone throws like that so

I don’t think the runner did it on purpose, but it did make a play at first unable to happen so therefore I would say both runners are out. Just my opini

This interpurtation of the rule sets a bad precedent for future games. It’s saying the fielder doesn’t have to make an effort to get off the bag to make a throw.

Pretty similar to the situation of a throw down to 3rd by the catcher. If the batter (or in this case, retired runner) interferes, it's just that. Interference.

Call should be on the 2nd baseman bc she was throwing in the base path, she’s supposed to pop off the bag . Runner is allowed to pop up on the bag.
