@newyorker: Every year, as winter gives way to spring, men in Bulgarian villages don giant costumes and dance together, whirling and clanging bells to chase off unfriendly spirits and welcome a fruitful year. This tradition, known as Kukeri, extends back centuries, so far into the past that its origins are obscure. A documentary by Killian Lassablière shows how the ritual has survived, and what it means to those who practice it. Watch it in full at the link in our bio. #documentary #dance #ritual #bulgaria
They also still do this in southern morocco .. is it for Baal?
