401k is voluntary for both employees and employers-we do have SSI benefits that come out of our taxes.. granted not enough to survive in retirement but it’s government.. 401 is in addition to that..

Okay there are several different types of retirement accounts 401k is simply a savings account. Also how much your company can match is regulated.

I have to pay $2 a litre if I get petrol locally. Drive an hour to my Docs and I can get it for $1:94.9 a litre

Sorry, but it sounds like Australia has the better deal. Most employers I’ve had don’t even match contributions to 401ks. It’s sad.

I was a uiion officers when it came on it was part of a rise of 5% you got 2 % in your pay and 3% went into your super it's your money

Yeah 11% now but some do up to 14% if negotiated at time of EBA if that’s what they still call it theses days.
