Add a rectangle mask and shrink it way down making it a little thicker than your transition line. Add some feather for smoothing. Add a keyframe, then scrolling along the timeline, reposition the fire layer to follow the transition line. And there you go! - Pro tips: Use a tripod, don’t move it between shots. Use AV lock on your camera, so the exposure/brightness doesn’t change. Use markers on the ground to keep your feet stepping in the same place.
