I got a call just like this once. Said they were the county sheriff’s office. I told them that was interesting seeing as I worked for the sheriff’s office. They promptly hung up.

I got a similar scam several months ago saying I missed a court hearing I was supposedly required to testify at. They had enough vague details to sound very convincing.
