Do you think networking jobs will become obsolete in a decade? If so, why?

I really like that apartment analogy. I always used suburbs and address. But apartment is wayyy better!

Ok but are ports physical? I’m the kind of person that needs to see to understand, is it just virtual?

Since you are working more on firewalls now a days would you touch on how you go about creating firewall rules? ie. what is your process once you get a request?

I always imagine that an IP address is a house. External ports are the front/side doors. Internal NATed ports are the bedrooms.

Not to mention that the services can run on any port you set. So http can be on port 21 and ftp can be on 80. Just to mess with you lol.

This is the best explanation I have heard. I will use this analogy the next time I have to explain it to non-technical folks.

imo port numbers are appended to ip numbers so that tcp/ip knows which application to forward the packet to.

I like the tv channel analogy. we have a shared knowledge of what channel and what types of content typically air on which channel.

How many protocols and ports exist and does every client and server have them? it does collision come between the date and process? because every ports or protocol has own jobs
