Does anyone know the truth behind polygamy I know I will get a lot of hate because I’m Mormon but the religion has been so twisted and manipulated like any other religion. First polygamy as we know it isn’t how it started. Polygamy was allowed in the Mormon religion because back in the day women weren’t allowed to work so they couldn’t provide for their families without a husband thus needing a husband. So let’s say you’re married and your husband died and you had 2 kids but you have no way to provide. You could go to a close friend. you would have to ask the WIFE permission to marry her husband NOT the husband. If the wife agrees their assets basically became yours and he was able to help provide for you and your family. You were either able to keep your house and live separately from then (which was more expensive on the man) or you could choose to live with them. But the husband is not allowed to lay with any other wives. He is only allowed to lay with his first wife the one he chose to marry. It is considered a sin if you did. Which as humans do they took what was supposed to be a beautiful thing into a disgusting sinful thing. Polygamy wasn’t supposed to be for “multiple wives just cause”. It was supposed to help support one another is the community since some couldn’t support themselves.

Thank you for saying this!! I tried explaining this to some of my lds practicing family and the response was, “it’s not the same as polygamy. Polygamy isn’t foundational to the doctrine.”
