@newsweek: The CEO of Bristol-Meyers Squibb refused to commit to lowering the price of stroke-preventing Eliquis, a drug with a price tag of $7,100 per year in the United States, to the $900 annual cost in Canada. #news #newsweek
I am now living in Belgium. I pay 10% of what I used to pay for Eliquis in the US.

Canada negotiates prices with most pharmacy companies before putting it out there. That's the difference.

Go on their website and get a prescription card!!! It has helped tremendously! I pay $10/month now and it’s good for 2 years. I WAS paying $180 for 3 months and that was with good insurance!

Deep regulation of pharmaceutical companies need to happen here in the US. No more than 18% profit should be allowed. If the taxpayer helps in development then 15% profit.

Comparing list price to manufacturing price may not be totally appropriate- they do have to recoup research costs. There shld be a limit to profit

What people don’t talk about is that it costs billions of dollars to discover a drug and bring to market. The profits are big but those profits got back into discovery of new medicine. Pharma companies employ tens of thousands of skilled employees.

I wonder why they can't drop the price in the US. Is it import taxes or the insurance companies, that set the price?
