This is an update on a video I did about a month ago, called Tiny Lies, where I went down a rabbit hole trying to find the origin of the myth that in China, there are spiky park benches that you have to pay to sit on or they will stab you in the butt. It turns out, a Chinese magazine called "Yilin" published an article in 2014 falsely claiming these coin-operated spiky benches are in Berlin, and that they are a good thing because they help keep people off their mobile phones and engaging with each other instead. At first, I was told the Yilin article was a 'spoof' of the types of articles that Yilin used to publish glorifying the West. But I have come to the conclusion that their article was intended as real, and was the very type of article that is so absurd it is parodied.
