loni :

and guess who was before claudette colvin, viola desmond. a light skinned women. it was just a cycle that kept getting repeated, and rosa parks was just coincidentally the one that became popularized for it.

justmechris2 :

it was because she was a pregnant minor and unmarried

Bumbling Bee 🐝 :

She JUST passed away 1/13/2026 and I’ve never heard of her 🥀😮‍💨🕊️RIP!

Sissy :

It was because she was pregnant

N\A :

Was the NAACP wrong tho? Im dark skinned too. But if they needed to get this massive political movement into the mainstream, they needed to do it with someone that white folk could accept. That’s what happens with all political movements. The focal point has to be pleasing to the masses. They lied about details, aswell. She was 40, not 80. She was a seamstress, she wasn’t tired of standing all day, as she was sitting at her work. Husband had a car so the bus was not a necessary option for her. And the last one. The biggest one. Her arrest did not spark the boycott. The boycott was planned. 🙈

codestohealing :

They actually mentioned Claudette Colvin in the Rosa Parks movie, but I guess no one paid attention.

🧊🗡️Adri🗡️🧊 :

SHE WAS NOT PREGNANT AT THE TIKE OF THE ARREST GUYS

A’Shanti🦋 :

see this whole time i’m wondering why they overlooked her and let Rosa Parks get her “shine” and now was known for something Claudette did first

Tia ✨ :

She was dark skin and pregnant not married… they felt like Rosa would be a better image because she was a light skinned working adult. I also heard she was SA’d to be pregnant but she never got help or protected like Rosa did smh

Natosha Butler :

It was mostly because she was 15yrs old and pregnant. They didn’t want a pregnant teenager to be the face of the movement.

ginger.actual :

I teach 2nd grade and we cover biographies of people who have changed our country. Know that I’ve been teaching about Claudette too

eliza :

Right her skin was darker not no pregnancy if Rosa was pregnant she still would’ve been noticed bc she was lighter

Chyna Doll 💕 :

this was literally 71 years ago. 47 years before I was born ts was not that long ago 😣

ela🇨🇩🇵🇸🇭🇹 :
