we could never sit. even if we were switching shoes you'd have to kneel if need be. lambs wool and toe pads were frowned upon.

My Cecchetti school in late 50s and 60s was the same. Black leotard, and pink tights and shoes. Never anything else.

Sounds like the ballet teacher I had in England! Totally relaxed in tap and jazz with those teachers and then the strictness of the ballet teacher 😂 she threw cassette tapes at us and smoked in class

Same experience! Simply discipline and that’s a good thing. And saying thank you by the end of the class for the lesson and good bye Mrs. XY or Mr. XY. I miss the time and my ballet classes. 😌🙏

My daughter’s studio is also Russian based and has the same rules. They are good life lessons and teach respect and discipline.
