@dudegardens: I know it seems crazy that it’s the beginning of February and I’m talking about planting seeds but I PROMISE you it will all be worth it. I realize I looked a little crazy buying bags of compost today and planting all afternoon but now is the perfect time to direct sow hardy annuals! Hardy annuals are plants that complete their entire lifecycle in one growing season – from seed to flower to seed – and are capable of withstanding cooler temperatures and frost. The optimal time to plant them is winter into early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Some can even be fall planted depending on your climates. While they can withstand cool temperatures, most cannot handle extreme cold that’s why it’s best to plant in late winter/early spring. Some hardy annuals that can be direct down… •Bachelor buttons •Bupleurum •Nigella •Cress •Ammi •Sweet Peas •Orlaya •Calendula •Larkspur •Poppy •Dara •Chinese Forget-Me-Not It’s good to note, that these can withstand cool temperatures but should you dip to extreme cold you need to have a plan to cover them to protect from extreme temperatures. It’s easy and nature does all the work for you! *I’m zone 6b! • • • #garden #gardener #mastergardener #gardenlove #gardening #iamyourgardener #howdoesyourgardengrow #gardeningforthesoul #gardenlife #farmher #gardengirl #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #flowerfarm #cutflowers #cutflowergarden flowersofinstagram #flowertips #flowergarden #gardenflowers #freshflowers #farmfresh #farmfreshflowers #coolflowers #hardyannuals #directseedsowing
