@r4nd4zzo: Bassline of the Week #41. Up next is a track from one of my new favorite artists. This is Mk.gee’s “You” from his May 2018 release, “Pronounced McGee”. I just got turned onto this artist a couple of weeks ago. I came across a video of him hanging out the window of a bus playing one of his new songs, “Looking Up,” and I was immediately hooked. He just released an album on Friday entitled “Two Star and the Dream Police,” and it’s an absolute banger. Killer songwriting/production, and the guitar playing is absolutely next level. In anticipation of the new release, I went in search of some of his back catalog. As soon as this track came on, I was stricken with immediate stank face and continued to really dig the whole “Pronounced” record. In search of more material, I was introduced to another killer young artist, Dijon. His record “Absolutely” is full of bangers and features Mk.gee heavily on his baritone Jaguar guitar. There’s a great live performance of that entire album on YouTube which I highly recommend. Shoutout to the great Gabe Noel on bass there, a cat whom I’ve been a fan of since college. According to Bandcamp, all instruments on this track were recorded and played by Michael Gordon AKA Mk.gee. Not exactly sure what type of bass he has or normally uses… anyone know for sure?
