@misteramazingofficial: The Church of the East: the heretic 1/3 of Christianity. NOTES: [1] Although Nestorian-inspired Christology is practiced today in the Assyrian Church of the East, it is seemingly not as "heretical" as it once was; Church leaders are now seeking unity with Eastern Orthodoxy, which itself repudiates Nestorius. [2] the Church of the east was not officially "Nestorian" - this is a (somewhat, though not complete) misnomer created to cast aspersions on defectors from the Church of rome. [3] Christological terms are vague and difficult. My articulation of flesh and spirit is a dramatization that does not capture the intricacies of Neatorius' position, infamously hard to understand. "Person" is a technical term referring to something like Jesus' concrete, material historicity. This "personhood" somehow "contained" two separate human and divine essences. Orthodox theology instead contends that while these essences are separate, they are mysteriously united in Christ. I somewhat loosely and innacurately use this term, unity, to describe Nestorius' position. These essences are united "in" Christ's person, but not themselves united. Orthodox theologians thus dramatized Nestorius' position as two essences rattling around in the shell of Christ's body. The crucial distinction is Nestorius' denial of the mystery of the hypostatic union - Nestorius, essentially, tries to explain this union. This explanation reduces Mary from Theotokos to Christotokos - dividing Christ's humanity and divinity, Mary only births a humanity somehow later infused with divinity. This later infusion is the condtion for Orthodox aspersions that Neatorius was a complex adoptionist. Orthodoxy, contrastingly, maintains that Christ as Logos was fully human and divine from the moment of his conception. Apologies if I have made any mistakes in my articulation of my understanding of these doctrines! #greenscreen #theology #History #christianity #religion #god #heresy #jesus

One thing I will point out is, Christotokos is not meant to be a “reduction”, but a term that encompasses both natures of Christ, God and Man.

Then at the council of Chalcedon they rebranded nestorianism and called it dyophisitism. Which is why the oriental Orthodox Churches split.
