EPISODE 52 SABUNLEY SECONDARY SAMBA BOYS..!! Sabunley harambee secondary was established in 1976 by parents in conjunction with the then District commissioner as a mixed secondary school. Parents raised money through the effort of the then District Education officer the late Ibrahim M Hussein alias Ibrahim Dere. The first two classrooms were constructed at Wajir primary under the then Headmaster Mr.M.M.Said. alias (chifret). The name was derived from a pond known as warti Sabunley which was within the compound of Wajir primary. Some of the pioneer students were Hassan Ali alias watoi,Mohamed Abdirahman alias cowboy, Hon.Olow, hon mohamed affey, Abdiladif Haji Issa alias jomo mustafa adan hashi (aun), also in the 80's wakina Hussein shobow, Rashid mohamed rashidey alias mad fish, Mwalimu Njuguna, Kassimow mohumed yarow Abdille, Nalow haji adan, Abdikadir Ali bashir, mwalimu m.malele, A/rizaq ismail haji(siqsiqey), Aden Abakula, Fuad bodbode(aun) Mohmud kahiye dore, samatar warsame from Narok, mohamud Andosi from Nakuru, Abdijabar from isiolo etc Allah yarham those who passed on. The pioneer students were later joined by some girls- Fatuma Adan Gedi, Fatuma Iman, Madam Muslima Mohamed.etc The school was shifted to the current compound in 1978. A mzungu man from USA whose name I can't recall became the second Headmaster.The late Enow took over in 1979. The third Headmaster Mr.Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi (owner of Yare tower & yare complex easleigh) took over in 1980 he was later transfered to wajir high school then eastleigh boys before becoming a PS. Then came the famous Principle macalin Khalif sh Adan alias khalif geleey, Alafu the stern authoritarian Principle Abbey jongo. The school later became a double stream in 1980. The last lot of ladies completed the school in 1980. The school was no longer a mixed school and was named sabunley boys secondary school. The late Macalin Ibrahim Dere played a big role in establishing and shifting the school to the current compound. In fact it was through his efforts that the land was acquired. IMwalimu Ali Mohamed Yussuf taught briefly in 1978 as a UT when the school moved from Wajir Primary to its present location. He later came back in 1981 and was deputy before moving to start Wajir Girls in 1983..
