@nytimes: A nor’easter dumping heavy snow on the country’s most populated region is disrupting daily life in New York and beyond, with officials urging millions of people to avoid traveling in a storm that could produce two inches of snow an hour or more in some areas. More than 30 million people were under a winter storm warning, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight rain began to turn to snow just before daybreak in New York City and intensified during the morning commute, coating streets that were emptier than usual. The storm was moving farther south than previously expected, cutting in half the snow forecast in portions of New England — but a foot was still expected in some areas. Up to eight inches was expected in New York City, with as much as a foot in the forecast for areas north and west of the city. #newyork
