@femme_financial: What do you think? I see this a lot with siblings too parents pay for more for one sibling than others who are more low key. #PersonalFinance #financialliteracy #weddingcosts @Jordy
I didn’t ask for it and I never will. I’d rather them have the money for themselves and their retirement than me

Parents paying for things aside (not in my reality) that’s why I want people to celebrate me on my birthday so much, I don’t have kids or a partner, live by myself so when is it time to celebrate me??

Yes, parents often pitch in for weddings but it’s wild to think you’re entitled to that money and expect them to give you what they would have spent. It’s meant to be a gift.

I understand why people are calling out entitlement, but there are a LOT of parents who DO have money specifically set aside for a child's wedding

For my child, we’re saving to give them a set amount when they become an adult. They can use it however they see fit. Wedding, house, vacay, any way!

My parents were going to give my sister 5k and also give me 5k to be fair but she didn’t need it anymore so now we both get nothing 💀

Parents who pitch in for weddings are doing so to help take the burden of that EXTA & usually LARGE expense off of you

Weddings have big cultural meaning. Ppl might give gifts for graduations, etc but just asking for money for not doing something doesn’t hold weight

My parents always said they’d give me a down payment if I eloped. When I turned 31 I said “I’m single with no options. Can you help me with $ down?”

I want a small wedding, my sister is having a huge one. They told me they will pay the same and I can use the rest on a down payment for a house

I threw myself a 40th birthday party with plans to pay for it all myself. My parents ended up helping which was very kind and I felt very celebrated

They aren’t going to do that. They will think they got out without having to pay

If I can’t pay for my own wedding then I’m not having a wedding. If they want to buy my dress fine, but I would never want them to pay for something

Yes our parents recognize economic landscape and housing issues between our generations. We are getting married at city hall & buying a house instead

Weddings are experiences for the parents too, rent is not. I would never ever ask for that
