PYREX, in all upper case, indicates the item is made of Borosilicate Glass and can be safely heated in the microwave or oven. pyrex, in all lower case, indicates the item is made of Soda-Lime Glass….which is NOT heat resistant. hi there. borosilicate handles thermal shock better but Soda Lime is absolutely ok to put in the oven or microwave. Just don't shock it by putting it on a cold surface when it's over 300 degrees.
