@support_the_spectrum: What are Gestalt phrases? A gestalt is an intonation rich long or short phrase that to the gestalt language processor, conveys a very specific meaning. Most gestalt phrases are emotion based and most of the time do not seem to relate to the situation at hand. They are all used to process, communicate a need, or express emotions when other forms of communication are challenging. They can also be self-soothing or self-stimulation behavior, providing comfort or familiarity in stressful or overwhelming situations. If you’d like to learn more about how we incorporate these behaviors into speech therapy sessions to affirm and teach language skills, follow me on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube @support_the_spectrum #autism #autismspectrumdisorder #ASD #autismawareness #autismacceptance #educationalpurposes #autismspectrum #neurodiversity #autismcommunity #LearnOnTikTok #teachersoftiktok #teacher #speechpathology #autismsupport #education #teacherlife #autismadvocacy #gestaltlanguageprocessing #GLP #languageacquisition #gestaltlanguageprocessor #autismoftiktok #neurodiversityaffirming #neurodiversityaffirmingpractices #gestaltlanguageprocessorslp #therapytiktok #therapytok #therapy #echolalia #scripting #immediateecholalia #delayedecholalia #skit #supportthespectrum

I have a gestalt in my classroom and I've been able to start translating for her parents. "Go go power rangers " is her way of saying "Let's go!"

The dopamine rush I get every time I finally decode one of my kiddo’s phrases. Suddenly so much makes sense all at once and I’m reminded of how brilliant he is 😭

I’d tell my son after therapy while buckling him in“you did a good job today!” So whenever he wanted to leave somewhere that’s what he’d say.

My daughter was very sick in the ER, whenever a nurse or doctor came in she said “I’m so sorry” I think that meant she felt miserable

Is this why I find myself singing lines of songs for “no reason” but when I stop and realise what song it is or what line I’m focusing on singing it’s

We love Gestalt phrases in our house! You might also make a video about how some ASDers speak in memories to express feelings.

I’m 18 and have asd I still do this but now it’s less as a communication thing and more so as a comfort thing when I’m stressed or another way to express emotions

Is there any difference between gestalts and echolalic phrases? Or are they synonymous?

can the echolalia come hand in hand with gestalt? son repeats constantly but we know that some of it has a meaning to him that's not obvious to others

To get a real clear response from my kiddo we gotta do it in Johnny Johnny. I plug in his name, yes mama, question, y/n mama and we keep going until we got a clear answer 😂

G'daughter's therapist said perhaps she's a gestalt language processor. My eyes OPENED WIDE. She communicates with song. "Baby shark" meant "bath".
