@floriangadsby: These new angular bowls are finicky pieces to trim. Some, but not all, of their interiors get skimmed over and the rim thinned, then they’re flipped over and pinned down from above, so that I can turn very close to the rim, then the bowl is secured in placed with three lumps of soft clay and the lower part and footwell can finally be turned. All of this means that this new shape, which may very well replace my previous small bowl, takes longer to make. I say that they might replace my old small bowl, but I’m yet to fire any of these and that’ll be the real deciding moment. They’re thrown with about 1.5 cm in the base to account for the tall foot and I stamp the underside of the foot itself, a precarious motion, as the porcelain is pressed into the leather hard foot that I pinch from either side to stop the material from splaying out too much. The first half of these go into the electric kiln for a bisque firing tonight—along with a few of those test pieces made with bronze and steel hammerscale inclusions.
