I spoke to my tattoo artist, and she told me that her insurance wouldn’t cover me as a client and that I’m more susceptible to get an infection.

If you go to a reputable shop then infection risk is lowered. The milk Meg has a good article online about it (2)

I’m a cosmetic tattooist and also worked inside of a body tattoo studio - the issue is insurance but in the case of baby safety the only concern is infection not the actual ink.

Yes! I did while in bali too. They didn’t really care, I just made sure to keep it really clean and trusted the owner of the tattoo shop

Yessss I did!! The reason against it is the risk of infection and that passing through breastmilk. Aus is so hygiene strict so you will be fine 💖

I got a tattoo while breastfeeding and was fine. It’s only if the tattoo gets infected I’m pretty sure, so I would just go to a tattoo artist you trust and would let them know you’re breastfeeding

I’ve got 4 tattoos with breastfeeding 2 of my girls! They just told me to watch if they dribbled on it, wash it extra and be clean. I’ve had no issues

Most tattooers won’t tattoo a breastfeeding mum. I was still bf when I got my tattoo but my girl was 16mo so I wasn’t super stressed if anything happened to my supply etc

Had microblading if that counts. It’s just down to infection risks I think, which if that’s the case surely you could just stop then

I did with my first and have one booked while feeding my second! The risk I was told was simply infection which I’ve never had an issue with before.

I did!! No issues. It’s just with the associated risk of infection. Just keep it clean and don’t touch while it’s healing

Thank you everyone! I wasn’t sure the reason behind why they advise not to but turns out it’s incase of infection & not the ink!

There aren't studies on it but scientifically it's thought that the molecules of ink are too large to pass to the breastmilk. (1)

(1/6) So the big drama around getting tattoos (and piercings) while breastfeeding comes down to an increased risk of infection. Your body is focused on creating the most nutrient dense milk with

I got my daughter’s name tattooed on me while I was breastfeeding - 8 months at the time and fed for 14 months. It really depends on your tattooist
