Mustangs had a recall for this issue. The repair if wires were still intact was to put a plastic rod in the loom to change the way the loom bends.

I had this happen to the gas door on my 2003 Honda Civic! I actually went to get gas and accidentally opened the trunk, then, not only would the trunk not shut, but the gas door wouldn't open.

The “pressing as fast as I can” would normally tell me user error. Some vehicles only open when you hold the button not on a single press .
