Supporting your kidneys through diet is a powerful way to maintain and improve their function. Jo-Anne from our ‘Kidney community’ (have you joined yet?) recently posted the following: “I have just been told I have stage 3 kidney failure. I am so overwhelmed. Have to change my diet but the internet just jump from one page to another and whats acceptable on one is not mentioned on another. Please advise where I can find a proper food list for kidney diet.” I absolutely know where Jo-Anne is coming from. Researching kidney health online can get really frustrating, really fast. The most frustrating part of it all? The diet advice… So much of it is confusing, contradictory or just flat-out wrong. To make things worse, even some doctors and specialists make very short-sighted dietary recommendations. (can you believe some of them are prescribing all their patients to avoid fruits and vegetables??) So, where can you get proven diets for improving your kidney health? After working with kidney disease patients for over 11 years now, I can tell you that a real kidney-friendly diet is very different from what 95% of the internet will tell you. Unlike what you may have read… * It doesn’t have to taste awful (in fact, it can be very tasty). * It doesn’t involve just looking at sodium and potassium content of foods. * It doesn’t have to be difficult to follow. * And it doesn’t have to take over your whole life.
