In the Midwest, it’s common for strangers to give compliments like I like your shoes or I like your jackets etc when out shopping.

If you work in any way with or around the public (retail for example) here you are expected to be friendly, approachable. You represent the company, employers feel.

One I noticed when I moved to go to Uni in London. People would say “you alright?” As like a greeting. And I would end up pouring my heart out because I thought they could tell I was struggling 🤣🤣

I lived in the UK for 3 years and ran a customer service call center... It was rough!! Hard to get the folks there get being nice was their job!
