@alexsfoodieadventures: Vex, Westgarth (Northcote) Located on the busy high street you’ll find this absolute gem of a wine bar! I’ve had it on my restaurant must visit list since 2023 and finally got around to visiting for a Valentines dinner! I had high hopes as the food I had been so lucky to eat at Waxflower in Brunswick when Damon was the chef there, was immaculate! Safe to say, the food is just as amazing, if not better! The restaurant is lit up with natural light and the decor is so funky and fun! The wine list is great, gnts are perfection and the food is phenomenal, what more can you ask for? The highlights of the evening for me were the panisse, which blew me out the park, I’ve tried this once before and was very underwhelmed and now that I know what it should taste like, it will be a go to for me to reorder from here! The smoked mussels were also delicious, as well as the flank steak which was cooked perfectly! The potato rosti was crispy and thin, the dish was well balanced with the fresh herbs and mustard- YUM! Finally the cacao mousse with sour cherries and caramel was incredible! The sour cherries were chewy and the mousse was light and rich! The perfect finisher So what didn’t we like? NOTHING! It was simply perfect! I loved the relaxed vibe, loved being able to watch the kitchen and I loved how bright and airy the place was! I wish I lived in Northcote so I could enjoy this gem more often!
