@yogiflightschool: EGO CHECK!! Bird of Paradise is one of those poses that's often thrown in in a yoga class, but rarely broken down in detail. We aren't going to go into ALL the detail in this video, but I'm highlighting a few of the important pieces. LET GO OF YOUR EGO: This pose is NOT about straightening the top leg! That is the VERY last piece that will happen, if and only if you have the mobility/flexibility in your hamstrings to do this right now. The ENTIRE rest of the pose still counts, and is not about that leg at all! Focus first on creating STABILITY through your standing foot. Engage your legs, engage your butt. Then work to open your chest. Think collarbones wide, and shoulders back. We are looking for both STABILITY and EASE in this part of the pose BEFORE we worry about extending the leg. If you focus on that leg and end up hunched over, falling over or flopping around, you've prioritized the "fanciness" over the stability. Let go of fancy, and embrace solidity! Did you learn anything new about this pose today? If so, drop it in the comments! If not, I'd love to hear - what is the most important piece of Bird of Paradise for YOU? #egogo #birdofparadise #yogaposebreakdown #letgoofyourEgo #hamstringmobility #legextension #stabilityandease #engagethelegs #engageyourbutt #openthechest #collarboneswide #shouldersback #prioritizestability #letgofancy #embracesolidity #yogatips #yogateacher #singlelegbalance #yogabalance #yogateacher
