Mihemed Şêxmûs Salih, known as Mihemed Şêxo, was a prominent Kurdish folk musician born in 1948 in Qamishli, Syria. He is renowned for his emotional, traditional, and often political songs. Due to financial difficulties, he had to leave his education at an early age but remained dedicated to music. In 1970, he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, where he studied at the Music Center Union for two years. In 1972, he formed the band “Serkeftin.” In 1973, he went to Iraq and worked on Kurdish programs for Baghdad Radio. That same year, he returned to Syria and released his first cassette, Ay Gewrê. However, his Kurdish music led to political pressure from the Syrian government, resulting in multiple arrests. Mihemed Şêxo passed away on March 9, 1989, in Syria. His death was a significant loss for the Kurdish community, and tens of thousands attended his funeral.
