@unknown_woodworking: Part two of how I do my bowtie/dutchman/butterfly inlays: Once I get a rough size I set the length. I use something easily divisible by 2. With this marked I then mark the center. For the shape of the bowtie I play around until it looks good. I then mark the width on both sides on center. With these marks done I draw layout lines connecting the outside corners to the center width marks. I will usually use a finer pencil for this but I couldn’t find any so this blue one worked.
