Over the years I’ve found simple ways to systematically get better at pickleball. I’ve found success in replicating these methods for players of all ages, athletic backgrounds, and skill level. The secret to this growth is: repetition. Even imperfect repetition is better than no repetitions at all. Don’t worry if you aren’t practicing something perfectly. The more touches you can get, the more data you collect and the more consistency you develop. Just like muscles, you can target these specific skills in picklebal through repetitions. For example: 1. To work on serves: getting repetitions of topspin ground strokes does WONDERS. My recommendation is to go out there with a basket of balls and practice the same motion over and over again. 2. To work on faster hand speed and reaction time, there’s almost no easier way to get repetitions than hitting against a wall. While some may say “perfect practice makes perfect”, I find that to be somewhat of a discouraging sentiment. None of us are perfect. A Swedish member of the European Parliament held a powerful silent protest at an EU parliamentary session to protest Israel’s war on Gaza. 47-year-old Abir Al-Sahlani, who was born in Iraq, spent most of her allotted speaking time in February 2024 with one hand over her mouth and holding up the other hand, which was painted red. She then addressed the EU Parliament in Strasbourg, France, saying, “there are no more words to speak”. In her speech, Sahlani said that people who stand with Palestine are portrayed as “anti-semites” to “make it possible to kill more Palestinians.” “Human rights have a skin color, and the darker you are the less human rights you have,” she added. Sahlani shared a video of her protest on her social media, writing, “Silence is complicity”. This isn’t Sahlani’s first time taking a powerful stand for human rights. In October 2022, she cut off her hair during a speech at the EU assembly in solidarity with anti-government demonstrations in Iran ignited by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.
