@neilpatel: How long should your emails really be? My email list size is 1,588,639 active subscribers. If you’re on my email list, you’ll notice that they tend to be text-based emails. That’s intentional, it helps with deliverability. But how long should your emails be? I ran multiple “A/B” tests and sent emails that were: 99 words or less 100 to 249 words long 250 to 459 words long 500 to 999 words long 1000-plus words long I only included 1 link in each of the emails. And we ran this experiment 6 times to our whole list. Here are the click rates based on email length: 99 words or less – 2.72% 100 to 249 words long – 3.84% 250 to 459 words long – 2.53% 500 to 999 words - .92% 1000-plus words - .69% We then tested this with 26 companies in different industries with email lists of at least 100,000 active subscribers. And when I mean active, I judge it based on open rates. In which they needed at least a 20% open rate. Here are the results: 99 words or less – 1.98% 100 to 249 words long – 3.57% 250 to 459 words long – 2.01% 500 to 999 words - .59% 1000-plus words - .86% You should test different email lengths. But we are finding emails with 100 to 249 words to perform the best if your goal is to get people to your site to take action.
