@justonthespectrum: Michael's exposure to the wide array of personalities and behaviors exhibited by children from different walks of life is often limited and carefully phased in. This is critical for Michael, who is in a key stage of behavioral development where watching peers and adults significantly influences his learning and the formation of his own behaviors. Being in an environment with individuals whose values and behaviors may not align with ours, poses a risk of not only Michael adopting undesirable behaviors but also the potential for him to lose confidence and interest in socializing. This is one of many reasons why homeschooling is ideal for us; it allows us to closely monitor and regulate his social interactions, ensuring his confidence is strengthened, not eroded, during his critical formative years. ‼️Contrary to popular belief, proper socialization extends beyond the boundaries of school environments and gatherings with peers of the same age. Social and emotional growth is greatly influenced by a range of life experiences, such as family dynamics, as well as by intentionally connecting with like-minded families. 📲 Social media platforms have proven to be invaluable tools in facilitating these connections and discovering communities and families with shared values. We are in the process of connecting in our area, but we do so with careful consideration, and that can take quite some time! 📌Context on Observation No.2: Whenever another child displays unkind behavior towards Michael, I refrain correcting the child, especially if their parent is there, as it's not my role to discipline someone else's child. In the situation where a child was throwing mulch at Michael, I simply just positioned myself between the two, thereby stopping the child from targeting Michael and ensuring that Michael didn't learn the behavior as acceptable. Given Michael's present difficulty in understanding complex social dynamics and advocating for himself, placing him in a a environment to confront these conflict of interest is unnecessary at this point in his development. My priority is to navigate Michael away from negative situations, and I resort to other measures only if this initial choice is not successful. #heartwarming #parenting #autism #signlanguage #ASL #nonspeaking #nonverbal #inspiration #motivation #autismawareness #autismjourney #neurodivergent #exposures #roadschooling #homeschooling #unschooling

He did so amazing 💕 you are doing a amazing job. His social skills are better than the other kids there. Parents please teach your kids that other kids may be different but still should be included
