Creatine and… Depression? 🤔 We all know that creatine helps with muscle That’s because about 95% of creatine in the body is stored in your muscle tissue (duh 💪🏼) But did you know the other 5% is stored in the brain? 🧠 This small study (along with several others) is showing that supplementing with creatine monohydrate may impact certain pathways in the brain. And that when these individuals supplemented with 5 grams of creatine per day on top of starting an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), they got noticably better results compared to the group just taking an SSRI. Now this is a very small sample size, so we can draw absolutely no conclusions from this - especially when dealing such complex and dynamic problems like depression and mental health. But more and more research is being done on creatine and the brain, showing a potential impact on not just mood and depression, but different aspects of cognition, alertness, and even fighting mental fatigue (studies linked below👇🏼) It’s just extremely exciting/cool to see research heading in this area and more is being done to expand on these findings Now we have an idea that creatine might help with strength and power, endurance, heart health, mental health/cognition, healthy aging, bond health, and so much more I am tellling you, people will be taking this like a multivitamin in the future, regardless of if they lift weights or not ⚕️🌱 p.s. I am in no way affiliated to Bulk Supplements Creatine, it’s just the lowest cost/highest quality form you can buy that I’ve been using for the last 5 or so years Research:👨🏼🔬👩🏻🔬 Study from reel: PMID: 22864465 Creatine with Depression PMID: 17988366 PMID: 22864465 PMID: 21831448 Creatine with Alertness, Fatigue, Cognition & Sleep Deprivation: PMID: 11985880 PMID: 17046034 PMID: 16416332 PMID: 17185404 #FitTok #GymTok #Fitness #MentalHealth #creatine
AG1 might be one of the biggest deceptions I’ve seen successfuly pulled off in the supplement industry😶 They claims to be an all-in-one supplement that can replace all of your other daily supplements, which is why it costs over $100… But in reality, doesn’t even replace what this $11 multivimin from Walmart would do for you? They took advantage of the fact that if you place your product with reputable people, people will automatically believe that you have a quality product (regardless of what’s inside). And to be fair, I don’t blame the consumer for not taking the time to look into it. Nutrition is complicated. For example, I know nothing about cars. So if someone I see as a credible source for car information (like a mechanic), tells me something about my car, I just trust them. Because I don’t have the time to study automotive engeneering to fact check them. So I wouldn’t expect the average person to go out of their way spending hours studying nutrition, learning how to read research, or to look into how the supplement industry works when they hear a reputable podcast tell them AG1 is a good product. But what sucks about this is that the supplement industry is wildly unregulated, and makes it so easy for companies to take advantage of consumers. I go into a lot more detail on AG1 specifically on episode 112 of The Fitness Stuff (for normal people) Podcasr if you’re curious - But just want to get one thing straight… Athletic Greens is a marketing company, not a health company. #supplements #FitTok #GymTok #health #healthy #scam
No, the aspartame in diet coke is not going to kill you If you want an easy way to tell who is full of s*** on this app, remember this one principle: The dose makes the poison For everything When someone at the grocery store tells you to avoid certain everyday items because they contain an ingredient you can’t pronounce, they often leave out a key detail: HOW MUCH of that ingredient is actually in the product Because everything… has a safe, and a toxic dose This applies not just to mysterious ingredients, but even to things we consider healthy, like water, vitamins, and minerals. Take water for example: We all know it’s good for us But while a single drop does nothing, drinking 1 liter of water every hour all day can lead to water toxicity - where you essentially drown from the inside out Why this is so funny to me - is that the amount of coke zero someone would need to consume in order for the aspartame to become potentially dangerous… Would be around 48, 12oz cans (for someone my size) 48, 12oz cans = 17 liters of liquid The toxic dose for water in one day = 10-15 liters i.e. YOU WOULD DIE FASTER FROM THE WATER IN THE COKE ZEROS BEFORE THE ASPARTAME EVER GAVE YOU A SINGLE HEALTH RISK #FitTok #GymTok #health #dietcoke #organic References: PMID: 30602577
