@charles_dowding: The bed I dig once a year with compost incorporated has not enjoyed the rain this winter and even this week it’s looking more straggly after 77 mm / 3 inches rain in seven days. These are broad beans and peas transplanted 7th December for harvests of the tops before 10th March when we shall cut them at the base to compost the tops, leaving the roots in before planting spring vegetables at the equinox, with a fleece cover on top.
