@enquiryco: “SHARING” IS NOT CARING 🙅🏻♀️ Sharing is grown up idea invented to try to keep toddlers from crying. And it doesn’t even do that. If a child using something, they don’t need to stop just because someone else wants it. Toddlers are not developmentally able to cooperate. They play NEXT TO each other, not WITH each other. This doesn’t mean they can’t practice interacting in a considerate way. But we need to be realistic about what we expect a child’s social skills to be like. AND I’m wayyy more interested in teaching toddlers how to hold personal boundaries than to be generous (that comes when they’re a little older). #toddlerbehavior #toddlersharing #sharingiscaring #toddlerteacher #toddlertips #toddlerexpert
i think there’s a huge difference between a toy that child owns versus like communal toys in a classroom or at the library or something.

My kids took a toy to the park and another mom expected my kids to let her kid to play with it… no… absolutely not.

It’s so uncomfy when other moms expect my kids to take turns like sis I’m not asking you for a turn with your phone? 😅

I say “sharing does not mean they give it to you just because you want it” to the kids I work with

In my opinion sharing is, “I have 10 blocks and my friend has none so I give them 5 so we can build together” not “my friend has what I want so I give it to them”

Early educator. Parents freak when I say I don’t teach to share. I teach to take turns. As in when I’m done, you go

Eh. Today I told my girl “you can only bring your doll if you can share. If you can’t, that’s okay she’ll just need to stay in the car.” Worked out.

I had to unlearn this as a parent. Also, the “be friends w everyone” mindset. It’s ok to not want to be friends; just be nice. Decades of conditioning

I think a lot of people misunderstand sharing as “give it right now bc they want it” when really it’s usually more about taking turns

I do this with my kids and it’s amazing. No tantrums, just patience building and courtesy

if in a playgroup setting & my son is hoarding all the cars, I will ask him to share and he can keep 2, we have 2 hands so we don't need more than 2

THANK YOU! I work in a daycare, as the 2’s teacher, and I do not just give kids something somebody else is playing by with because they want. They have to wait. I don’t do timers almost ever either
