if you’re young why not focus on both? use dividend payouts to reinvest into long term dividends like jepq or schd or even reinvest into growth stocks and have both dividends and growth

For me this is yes and no. I don’t see it as a waste of time. Those growth stocks are also stocks that take big losses. Manage your risk based on your own goals and what you’re comfortable with.
