NNPC gets Tinubu’s nod to spend federation’s dividends to defray petrol subsidy MTN, others get permits to generate electricity Ex-CJN Onnoghen moves to set aside CCT judgment that removed him from office President Bola Tinubu has approved a request by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd to utilise the 2023 final dividends due to the federation to pay for petrol subsidy, TheCable can report. The president also approved the suspension of the payment of 2024 interim dividends to the federation in order to augment NNPC’s cash flow, according to presidency sources. In addition, the national oil company told the president it will be unable to remit taxes and royalties to the federation account for now because of the subsidy payments, which it termed “subsidy shortfall/FX differential”. NNPC is expected to pause the payment of interim dividends for eight months this year — from May to December. Source the cable. https://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-nnpc-gets-tinubus-approval-to-spend-federations-dividend-on-petrol-subsidy/ The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued permits to Golden Penny Power Limited, MTN Communications Nigeria Limited, Havenhill Synergy, and others for mini-grid electricity generation. The NERC said it issued nine new off-grid generation licences in the first quarter of 2024 with a gross capacity of 109.69 megawatts and three new trading licences. Under this, the commission said it has continued to encourage the development and utilisation of renewable energy by issuing permits and registration certificates for mini-grid development. The former head of the Nigerian judiciary is praying the Court of Appeal to void and set aside the CCT judgment delivered against him on April 18, 2019, on various grounds. The Code of Conduct Tribunal had in 2019 convicted Onnoghen in all the 6-count charges of breach of Code of Conduct for Public Officers brought against him by the federal government while in office as head of the country’s judiciary. The Tribunal had also stripped him of all offices earlier occupied among which were the Chairman of the National Judicial Council, NJC, and also the chairmanship of the Federal Judicial Service Commission.
