Ol' Man River - The Temptations | A Tribute To Melvin "Blue" Franklin Today Temptations Community is a sad day. 29 years ago today, the world lost the greatest bass singer we have ever seen, or heard. He was a long-time member of the Temptations and always stuck by Otis' side through all the thick and thin. The man was David Melvin "Franklin" English, who tragically passed away on this very day at the age of 52. Instead of mourning his death, I wanted to pay homage to the late Melvin Franklin, as this is a tribute to Blue. This tribute I made is a collage of him singing lead on his signature song "Ol' Man River" throughout the years. One being 1967, 1983, and 1992. Throughout those years, Melvin made us fall in love with the way he sang that song with his low deep voice. Melvin was one of a kind whenever it came to performing. He always gave it his all, even through all the pain he suffered through in his latter years. We will never forget his bass voice that inspired many along the way. He was and is always a Temptation. Even though he died in 1995, his soul and spirit never left the Temptations. Rest in peace, Blue.
