The Etiquette of Building Community ⤵️ Over the past decade I’ve experienced two big moves in my life: the first to Buffalo, NY and the other, (5 years ago this week!) to Dallas, TX. When I first moved to both areas, I was lonely. We need community! I knew I needed to do something about it. So this is what I did: 1️⃣ I joined a Church parish: I knew it was a place where I would meet like-minded people with similar values. Take note of what values you have and what your interests are and then list some places where those people often congregate, and go! 2️⃣ I said “yes” to the invitations I did receive. Even if I didn’t stay long, I would attend and try to meet at least one new person. 3️⃣ I created a group to meet a need. And people started coming! I met my husband in this group and some of my dearest friends. 4️⃣ I went to work out classes. Even though I didn’t hang out with the people in the group outside of the class, I became close with them within that context, looking forward to that class each week. 5️⃣ I joined local Facebook groups. Though I didn’t meet anyone to “hang out” with, I did hear about events through the group, where I met friends by attending! 6️⃣ I reached out to my neighbors. 7️⃣ I started inviting others and hosting in our home. SO many people were in the same position as I was and were yearning to be with others! It just took someone to get us all together! 8️⃣ I listened to the Holy Spirit and would say “hello” to people. When I felt a nudge to initiate a conversation with a stranger I WOULD! And I’ve made the best connections and friends that way! 🤍 Extrovert or introvert - no matter our personality type, it’s up to us to put ourselves out there in some way. Whether that is saying yes to an invitation or extending an invitation - we must do our part to build up community. ✍🏼 If you want even more tips, comment FRIEND and I’ll send you the guide I wrote with my friend Melissa! #friendshipetiquette #etiquettetips #buildcommunity
