Honestly i initially found this book very drawn-out and it took me around 6 months to finish it (read three other books in the meantime cause it was boring me) but it wasn’t till i got to the last part of the book that i really understood it. Finishing it really felt like leaving Oran and it really left a feeling of emptiness. The whole point of prolonging the book was to recreate the helpless atmosphere and make you fully dive into it. Seeing different characters react to cruel suffering that couldn’t be prevented or avoided in any way (eg; the dying child) was quite strong for me. I cried sooo much when Tarrou died i loved his quiet friendship with Rieux
