@sachistorymuseum: On February 25, 1854, Sacramento became the Capital of California. The Sacramento County Courthouse building, constructed in 1851, at I and 7th Streets served as the Capitol building until that building was destroyed by fire on July 13, 1854, just after the legislative session ended. A new Capitol building was completed in the same location in time for the next session, however. California’s previous state capitals were in San Jose (1849-1851), Vallejo (January 5-16, 1852 and January 1853), and Benicia (1853-February 1854). Under Spanish and later Mexican rule from 1774-1846, and also under U.S. military rule from 1846-1849 prior to the California Constitutional Convention of 1849, Monterey served as California’s Capital. A larger State Capitol building was completed in the 1860s at L and 10th Streets where our Capitol still is today. For today , Jared discussed California’s previous capitals and letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) of the State Capitol building in the 1890s. This cut is from the Lewis Winter Collection and was made 125-130 years ago. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. The Capitol grounds, just over a mile away from the Sacramento History Museum, today definitely look different than what was depicted in the print! #SacHistoryMuseum #onthisday #california #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printingpress #printing

The way you guys hold and use the rollers drives me crazy. I’m sure there is a reason for it though.
