Mental healthcare must begin with care, dignity and the opportunity to recover. Building a healthcare system that truly leaves no one behind means ensuring that people experiencing mental health conditions can access the specialised care, rehabilitation and support they need. At Ketu-Ejirin, Epe, Lagos State is advancing a significant investment in the future of mental healthcare through the development of the Lagos State Mental Health Institute and Psychiatric and Rehabilitation Centre. Situated on approximately 25 hectares of land, the facility is planned to accommodate 500 psychiatric beds and 1,000 rehabilitation beds, expanding the capacity for specialised psychiatric care and rehabilitation in the state. The development includes patient accommodation, consultation rooms, dormitories, dining facilities, kitchens and residential quarters for healthcare personnel. Together, these facilities are intended to support service delivery and provide an environment conducive to patient care and recovery. Mental healthcare must go beyond the treatment of illness. It must also encompass rehabilitation, continuity of care, social support and opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives and participate meaningfully in society. Under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State continues to invest in healthcare infrastructure that responds to the diverse needs of its growing population. The development of this facility reflects the importance of strengthening specialised mental health services within the state’s wider health system. Mental health is an integral part of overall health. Every individual deserves access to appropriate care, delivered with dignity and without stigma. Our commitment is to a healthcare system that places people at its centre, recognises mental health as a priority and works towards ensuring that no one is left behind. #LagosHealth #MentalHealth #KetuEjirin #Mentalhealthmatters #ForAGreaterLagos
