My first grade teacher taught me to memorise words. I struggled with reading things that didn’t repeat words or had pictures, but once I reached fourth grade my new teacher there taught me phonics.

phonics are SO important to be able to function. i’ve made it a very important habit for my son to sound words out. we do phonics DAILY!!!!

My kid is hyperlexic and so many ppl tell me she's just guessing until I pull open novels and point to words no kid would know & she sounds it out 😅

When I was in 6th grade I helped tutor a 1st grader to read. The word was HELLO! HELLO and he said HAPPY BIRTHDAY 😭 I EVEN PHONETICALLY HELPED

I do agree that the technique you're talking about is definitely the way to go. But personally I feel like those repetitive books can be important1/3?
