Should I stop these California guides? 👇 I polled you about pausing these guides out of respect for SoCal, and heard an overwhelming response to keep them going: 1. For optimism & distraction 2. To remind people how fragile nature is and how much we need to appreciate it 3. As a trusted source for people needing/discovering new places. I want to give a PSA on the best ways to help SoCal right now, which are donations to: - California Community Foundation's Wildfire Recovery Fund - American Red Cross - Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation On to this trail guide: 🥾: Long Meadow and Cave Gultch trail near UCSC. 📏: 5.3 miles as a partial loop. 🅿️: Free at the West Remote lot (lot 127), no permits are required OUTSIDE the hours of 7-5PM M-F. 👦 friendly: Kid do able ⚠️ ⛔️: There are multiple hazards to be on the lookout for including: poison oak, remnant barb wire, unconfirmed structural integrity of the tree house/nets 🚽: None ♿️: No 🌞: Mostly Shaded How to explore: 1. Park in the west remote lot, then head over to Heller Drive and climb over the fence. This is not trespassing. 2. Go right into the redwoods at the second fence entry (NOT “Wonderland”). This leads you down a single track through the redwoods. This is 0.5 miles from the parking lot 3. The main tree net area is up the hill on the left and requires hiking poles to get up to. Very slippery - be careful! The coordinates of it are: Tree house: (36.9850834, -122.0716838). 4. Further up the trail is another tree house that’s 80-100 feet up. Too dangerous for my blood. 5. You can take Cave Gultch connector to Long Meadow to find some old lime kiln ruins; there’s some fun and easy spots to explore down by the river. 6. On your way out, finish the loop outside the redwoods to find the swings and the final tree net you see in the closing of the video 🗑️: Pack out what your bring 🐶: No Dogs 2025 stats: - Total Jan hikes: 10 - Total mileage: 41.5 Follow @outdoorwiseliving for more of the best of California! This was day 10 of my challenge to hike 31 different trails this January and make a donation worth over $50,000 to Kesum.
